As the client’s e-Commerce business dramatically grew, so did their damage claims. Their previous supplier had offered several different solutions, but all were determined to be too costly from a product standpoint, took too long to pack from a labor standpoint, or didn’t protect the product as well as their previous packaging, which was bubble wrap surrounding their product and then put into a box.

We re-engineered their packaging and had the package sent to an ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) laboratory for certification. The redesign included a cushioning of multi-layer paper through a piece of equipment that provided a resilient, shock absorbing pad to protect the product.

The new solution had REDUCED their damage claims from 3% to .6%. Due to the speed of execution with the new solution, they were able to increase their fill rate on orders by nearly 9%. The new equipment produces 18 inches of wrapping per second, so speed of execution was a major gain for them, while solving their primary breakage issue.
